When Google bought YouTube, many wondered about what Google would do about the old Google Video service. It doesn’t make much sense to have two services for the uploading and distribution of video clips now, does it?
Google is now doing the sensible thing, turning Google Video into a generic video search engine on line with Google News for new articles and Google Blog for blog content.
Google reports that:
Starting today, YouTube video results will appear in the Google Video search index: when users click on YouTube thumbnails, they will be taken to YouTube.com to experience the videos. Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where users can search for the world’s online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted.
It is not clear what this means for the videos that are hosted on Google Video at them moment.
It is clear, however, that YouTube will remain a separate subsidiary.
Google is also testing AdSense advertising video distribution and sponsorship with a small group of publishers.
